When Life Feels Heavy...

.

Hi Reader,

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey in the last email!

If anyone missed it, I'll still have it open below. It's just one required question and a few others that are optional.

When Life Feels Heavy...

No matter where you are, no matter what your views are, I think we all can feel that things are heavy right now. I live in Minnesota, in a suburb of the Twin Cities. Things are especially tense here right now, no matter who you are, or what you believe.

If you're feeling this and you're like me, any type of New Year's goals or health plans have already gone out the window because I need to instead focus on self-care and preservation.

If you're feeling that way too, I just want you to know you're not alone, and it's ok to just pause, reflect, and take some time for self-care. No matter what that looks like for you.

I know, being in the mom blog space, I'm probably expected to go into a whole mantra of the best products for self-care, the best places to get your nails done, try to sell you some printables I have, etc., but honestly?...

To me, self-care can be as basic as taking some time to play mindless games on your phone or iPad and binge a new TV show or rewatch an old favorite (my fav is The Office).

That's what I've been doing at least. Whenever I can...sometimes multiple times a day, if I can.

I'm not the type to go to the spa (I've honestly never been to one) or head to the mall for some retail therapy (those days were gone 20+ years ago lol). I just want to veg out in my home with a hot coffee, play some iPad games, watch some random TV show, and regulate my nervous system for a bit.

If you're feeling that way, too, with whatever you have going on in your life, I just want to give you permission to do so. Actually, scratch that, you don't need MY permission for anything.

I hope that you'll give yourself that permission.

Take that time for yourself.

Tell your partner or anyone who helps with your kids that you just need an hour to chill and reset. If you feel compelled to do so, you can always return the favor for them.

Though we're moms, we're also human. We deserve some time to just chill once in a while, and focus our overactive brains on something not consequential for a bit.

I hope that helps and that you have a good week moving forward.

. Hi Reader, This email is going to be a bit of a heavy one, but it has some important lessons as we, and our parents, age. As I mentioned previously, it was my 40th birthday on April 14th...and as I can sadly share with you now, my mom died at 12:25 am on April 15th. Her last gift to me was being able to somehow hold on until it was no longer my birthday to take her last breath. My mom just turned 68 last month, the same month she entered hospice care, 8 years after being diagnosed with...

. Hi Reader, I hope you're having a great week so far. TW: in addition to talking about my bday, I'll be discussing anticipatory grief and losing my mom. Today is my 40th birthday, and honestly...I'm not ready. I don't know how many of you are 40 yet, or near it, but there seems to be a bit of a mind shift when we get to this age. When I was a kid, back in the 90s, I remember hearing about a 'midlife crisis' where men would get fast cars, and women would want plastic surgery. But in...
