Our Anniversary + Relationship Tips

.

Hi Reader,

How are you doing?

My husband and I just celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary over the weekend. We kept things low key but had a nice time.

It's nice that our kids are the ages that they can be downstairs watching a football game on TV while we spend a couple hours chatting and working on a craft project together he came up with. We even dressed up, which doesn't happen often!

Of course, after a couple hours the kids started fighting and we had to break them up BUT it was still a nice time.

The following day, we all spent the day at our favorite beach which is a man-made swim pond about 20 minutes away. It was a great weekend!

Relationship Tips

As you know from my last email, I'm not a perfect parent and that's ok. I'm also not a perfect wife. BUT I feel that I have quite the happy marriage, which I feel very fortunate about.

Even though we have a busy household with 3 active boys, we make sure to make time for each other at least a few nights a week. This has really helped our marriage stay strong.

It helps that our kids are in their rooms by 7:30pm so we can spend time together without the kids. It's good for them to have some alone time to decompress and often they read for a while, especially our 9 year old, and then go to sleep.

We weren't always this way, it wasn't until I was battling postpartum depression after having our twins and going to weekly therapy that we came up with a schedule for the evenings after the kids went to bed.

This may seem odd but if you don't schedule time out to do things such as spending time together, working on the family budget, being intimate, it's just not likely to happen. We became closer again after we put this schedule in place. It's also important to have time apart to work on our own hobbies.

We've also found, that at least for us, we don't need to have fancy dates with babysitters, it's just not our thing - for now at least.

Sound like something you'd like to know more about? I wrote a blog post about it that you can check out below.

. Hi Reader, I can't believe summer is almost over, can you? Here in Minnesota most schools haven't started yet but I hear some local districts are starting next week already, which seems so early. Our kids' online school doesn't start until after Labor Day, which is nice. I realize though that much of the schools around the country have already started! If that's you, I hope it's going well so far. I'm a little nervous for the first week or so back. Sure, they're enrolled in the same...

Guess What?! I'm NOT a perfect parent and that's ok!

. Hi Reader, How are you doing? I've been feeling like I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Sorry for the graphic imagery if you're a person like me who visualizes what you hear. Really though, I feel like I'm running around doing everything at home, in terms of my chronic health conditions, and my businesses. Yet...I still feel like I'm not gaining much traction any aspect of my life. If you are feeling that way, or have in the past, I just want you to know you're not...

Fun Family Adventures with Little Kids for All Seasons

. Hi Reader, How are you doing? I don't know about you, but it feels like the summer has flown by. It's been busy and mainly good but quick nonetheless. If you're trying to think of ideas to do with your kids to soak up the last part of summer, check out this blog post written by my husband about all the adventures he does with our boys on Daddy Sunday/Son-Day. (I get Sundays off and he's with the boys, it's great.) He wrote this a few years ago but they still partake in most of these...
