Last Minute Mother's Day Idea

.

Hi Reader,

I hope your week is going well!

Mother's Day is this weekend! Typically, I send Mother's Day emails way before now, but the past two months have been anything but typical, so I'm a bit off in my timing.

Also, it's my first Mother's Day without my mom, since she passed less than a month ago, so it's hitting a bit differently this year.

All that aside, I was chatting with a couple of friends last night, and we all had a common theme of what we're hoping for on Mother's Day this year...a day where we DON'T need to be a mom!

Shocking, right?! ...Or is it?

Sure, it's great to be celebrated, and we'll all have some of that too, but it's also great not to be fully responsible for the kids for a day.

Just some time to relax, recoup, and not have responsibilities for a bit. Sip our coffee or tea while it's actually still hot, watch a full episode of our favorite show in peace, etc.

Granted, I understand this isn't an option for everyone, and maybe not what you're hoping for this year, but I was comforted when they spoke first that they wanted some time 'off' just like I do.

If that's how you feel, that's ok, and you're in good company.

My Mother's Day Weekend Plan

We are going to visit my mother-in-law on Saturday. She lives about 90 minutes away, so that'll be an all-day thing, which will be nice.

Sundays are typically my day 'off' from kid responsibilities since I'm with them 24/7 the rest of the week, and my husband is super awesome. We call Sundays "Daddy-Sundays" or, in our case, "Daddy-Son-Days" since we have all boys.

My husband sleeps in on Sundays (I sleep in on Saturdays), so I'm with the kids for a few hours until he is up and with them, and I retreat to our bedroom to watch church service and spend the rest of the day as I'd wish.

This Mother's Day, I plan on doing the regular Sunday schedule, but also heading to the local pop-up nursery outside of our grocery store to get some flowers, and later open gifts and spend time with everyone, later in the afternoon.

If you have that chance...take it!! If you don't have that chance, try to build it in from time to time, as you deserve some "me" time, if that is something that interests you.

I'm also on Teachers Pay Teachers! Unfortunately, they don't have universal coupon codes (yet!), and only allow things related to teaching, but a LOT of my products are over there if you'd prefer to shop on TPT.

The Disappointment of Mother's Day, You're Not Alone

. Hi Reader, I hope your week is going well! I hope your Mother's Day went well and that you were spoiled by your kids!! If not, know that you're not alone. Year after year, I've heard from other moms that their Mother's Day was a disappointment...which led me to write the blog post below. I know that disappointment is common based on how many people find and read this particular blog post in May around Mother's Day in the U.S. and in March for Mother's Day in the UK. My Mother's Day was...

. Hi Reader, This email is going to be a bit of a heavy one, but it has some important lessons as we, and our parents, age. As I mentioned previously, it was my 40th birthday on April 14th...and as I can sadly share with you now, my mom died at 12:25 am on April 15th. Her last gift to me was being able to somehow hold on until it was no longer my birthday to take her last breath. My mom just turned 68 last month, the same month she entered hospice care, 8 years after being diagnosed with...

. Hi Reader, I hope you're having a great week so far. TW: in addition to talking about my bday, I'll be discussing anticipatory grief and losing my mom. Today is my 40th birthday, and honestly...I'm not ready. I don't know how many of you are 40 yet, or near it, but there seems to be a bit of a mind shift when we get to this age. When I was a kid, back in the 90s, I remember hearing about a 'midlife crisis' where men would get fast cars, and women would want plastic surgery. But in...
