I hope your week is going well so far!

Sorry I didn't email last week and am a bit late today. I'm guessing no one keeps track, but I wanted to apologize anyway.

Last week, one of my twins ended up in Urgent Care on Monday Morning due to a big, deep owie that needed 3 stitches. I'll spare you the details and photos, but it was rough and meant he couldn't finish week 2 of swimming lessons last week with his brothers, which derailed some plans.

Luckily, he's healing well and will get the stitches removed on Thursday morning. Hopefully he can resume beach time after that, seeing as we don't start school until September, so it'd be nice to soak up some more beach time before then.

Ok, on to the subject of this email...it's more of a PSA again...

We live in Minnesota, and like many places, it's really common to have high levels of radon, which are often found when purchasing or selling a home.

When we moved here in 2019, the home was tested, and a radon mitigation system was installed.

Since then, we've done nothing with it, assuming it was settled.

This week I randomly found out that isn't the case.

Apparently, it's important to retest for radon levels every 3-5 years, and the radon mitigation fans typically last just 5-10 years.

WHAT?!?!

I had no idea!!! I posted this on my personal Facebook page, and many others didn't know this either, so I wanted to share it with you.

Here are some resources to learn more about how to test, how to check and see if your fan is still working, etc.

• ​Radon Mitigation and Testing Information: This is from MN but contains general information helpful to all.
• ​How to tell if the fan/system is working: the U-Tube Manometer levels shouldn't be equal/even. If they are, the fan isn't running. If they are unequal, then it's working. However, it's still important to retest for radon every 3-5 years.

Note: If you find that your fan isn't working, first check to see if the breaker was tripped. If it's an outdoor system, see if the GFCI outlet was tripped.

That's what happened to us; we thought the fan was dead, but went outside to find that it had been tripped. Luckily, all we had to do was press the reset button, and it started working again. We're still going to order a radon testing kit since it's been 7 years since we tested last and will be checking the fan more often, since it's near the end of it's life, apparently.
